NEW YORK CITY

DISCOVER

12   /   04   /   2023

This project was our first real world project. We were given many parameters and requirements to follow, but were still tasked on creating a design based off of function and transformation of space.

The library that I created was one that would have Japanese Art for the city to see, while being able to read and learn about Japanese history in New York City. Each floor tells its own story, while flowing into the floors that it shares walls with. The use of wood is inspired by the Japanese Architect Kengo Kumo, and it is used to transform the spaces throughout the building. The wood allows for vegetation to be grown all throughout the building, using New York's natural plants to have an overlap of the New York and Japanese community.
